IDEAS is the natural evolution of years of hands-on experience in tinkering, STEM education, and grassroots innovation, particularly in rural and underserved regions. Our work across tinkering labs and STEM programs showed us that when young people are given the right tools, trust, and real-world problems, extraordinary outcomes follow. Initiatives like TinkerHaat during TinkerFest demonstrated how simple activities—such as selling a food item—can teach real concepts of value creation, pricing, customer interaction, and entrepreneurship through experience. This belief was reinforced by remarkable student achievements, including a team that built a Mars Rover prototype and secured World Rank 3 at the NASA Rover Challenge (2021), students who designed and launched a satellite and received funding at the Global Unicorn Event in Dallas, and a youth innovator who developed an AI-based pest prediction solution funded by Intel. Innovations such as Masala GPT, Rural Volt, and YTSAT 2.0 further revealed a common thread—where design, engineering, and entrepreneurship come together to create impactful, applied solutions—shaping the vision of IDEAS.
