U.S. Consulate Brings STEM To Girls Through Young Tinker Space

We are thrilled to announce the establishment of a new Young Tinker Space (YTS) at Montfort School in the old city of Hyderabad. This space is uniquely special as it is dedicated entirely to empowering young girls. Twenty-six enthusiastic girls from grade 8 have been selected to participate in a yearlong Young Tinker program, a groundbreaking initiative designed to spark creativity and innovation.

In this program, the girls will dive into the fascinating world of technology and engineering. They will learn to work with 3D printers, master soldering techniques, explore electronics, and build their own remote-controlled cars using various sensors. The Young Tinker program is not just about developing hard skills; it also emphasizes the importance of soft skills. Through this student-driven program, where teachers act as facilitators, the girls will cultivate teamwork, problem-solving abilities, and leadership qualities.

This Young Tinker Space has been assigned the code 1778 B. The number 1778 represents the geographical coordinates of the school, while the letter B signifies that this is the second school within the same geographical area to launch such an innovative space. We are proud to share that the U.S. Consulate Hyderabad has generously supported this initiative.

The Young Tinker Space was officially inaugurated on June 13 by Ms. Gloria Berbena, Minister Counselor for Public Diplomacy at the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi. The event was graced by notable dignitaries including Mr. Alexander McLaren (Public Affairs Officer, U.S. Consulate, Hyderabad), Mr. Jonathan Orr (Public Diplomacy Officer, U.S. Consulate, Hyderabad), Rev. Bro. Yesu Prabaharan (Director and Correspondent, Boys Town Institutions), Rev. Bro. Edward Raj (Principal, Montfort School), and the founders of the Young Tinker Foundation, Mr. Anil Pradhan and Mrs. Vaishali Sharma.

Prior to the inauguration, four dedicated teachers from Montfort School participated in a weeklong training program at the Young Tinker Academy in Bhubaneswar. This program was transformative, providing them with a mindset shift and intensive hands-on tinkering experience. These trained teachers are now well-equipped to guide and inspire their students in this innovative space.

The establishment of this Young Tinker Space aims to provide the right tools and opportunities for these young girls, opening doors not only for their individual growth but also for the advancement of their communities. We believe that by nurturing these young minds, we can foster a new generation of innovators and leaders.

We look forward to witnessing the incredible projects and ideas that will emerge from this Young Tinker Space and are excited about the positive impact it will have on the students and their communities. Together, we can inspire a brighter future.
