Stories of Change: Tinker on Wheels, Sonbhadra (ToW 2483A)

As part of the Tinker on Wheels (ToW) initiative, the 2nd Cohort conducted a series of STEM and Innovation workshops from 16th July to 9th September 2025 in Sonbhadra. Over this period, students engaged in hands-on learning activities designed to ignite creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

At ToW, we believe that every child carries the potential to be an innovator, and with the right guidance, that spark can flourish. Throughout these weeks, classrooms transformed into lively hubs of exploration, where students explored entrepreneurship, practical problem-solving, and innovation in ways that connected learning to real-life challenges.

The culmination of this journey saw students presenting their innovative solutions—from addressing everyday community problems to envisioning futuristic products. Their creativity, confidence, and willingness to think big exemplify the transformative impact of the ToW program, reflecting how hands-on learning can empower young minds to dream, design, and innovate.

Star Innovators and Their Ideas

Idea Name: Eco-friendly Dustbin Model

Name: Sahin
Class: 8th
School Name: Birla Vidya Mandir, Myorpur

Sahin presented an innovative model after learning about entrepreneurship during the Tinker on Wheels (ToW) sessions. The model was a dustbin made using two used plastic tea cups, highlighting the importance of recycling and reuse of waste materials.

Through this project, Sahin demonstrated that instead of purchasing new plastic dustbins from the market, useful household items can be created using easily available waste materials such as used cups, cardboard, and carton boxes.

The model aimed to create awareness about recycling while also showing how waste can be transformed into something valuable. It further reflected entrepreneurial thinking, as such low-cost, handmade products can be produced and sold locally to generate income, making it a simple yet impactful idea.

Idea Name: Handmade Rakhi and Rainwater Harvesting Model

School Name: Kasturba Gandhi Balika Aawasiya Vidyalya, Myorpur

Kajal Kumari presented a creative project after learning about entrepreneurship concepts. She made a beautiful Rakhi using waste wool, showcasing her creativity and ability to reuse materials effectively. Along with the Rakhi, she also developed a model of a Rainwater Harvesting House.

Her project demonstrated how simple, low-cost materials and creativity can be used to create useful and decorative items. From an entrepreneurial perspective, she showed that handmade products and eco-friendly models can be developed and sold to generate income, while also spreading awareness about water conservation.

Kajal’s work reflected strong creative thinking and a practical approach, thoughtfully combining art, environmental awareness, and entrepreneurship.

Idea Name: Paper Flower Craft for Entrepreneurship

Class: 6
School Name: Birla Vidya Mandir, Myorpur

Shana, a student of Class 6, presented a creative idea after learning about entrepreneurship concepts. She created a beautiful flower using waste paper and planned to sell it as a handmade decorative item.

Her project reflected entrepreneurial thinking by showing how simple creative efforts can be transformed into a source of income. Through this model, she aimed to encourage the reuse of waste materials while creating useful and artistic products.

This simple yet meaningful idea demonstrated that even small initiatives can help students take their first steps toward entrepreneurship.

Project Title: Multi-Model Innovation: Solar House, Rain Harvesting System, Tractor, and Windmill

Name: Dev Kumar and Jayasant Kumar
Class: 8th
School Name: Aditya Intermediate College, Karamghatti

Dev Kumar and Jayasant Kumar presented an impressive and innovative project after learning about entrepreneurship concepts. Using very limited resources, they created multiple working models—including a Solar House, Rainwater Harvesting House, Tractor, and Windmill—at a total cost of just ₹60.

Their project highlighted key entrepreneurial values such as creativity, cost-effectiveness, and problem-solving. By using simple materials and innovative thinking, they demonstrated how ideas related to renewable energy and sustainability can be explored even at the school level.

The models reinforced the idea that innovation does not require high investment but rather imagination and skill. Their work inspired the vision of developing practical, eco-friendly solutions and reflected a strong entrepreneurial mindset toward a sustainable and self-reliant future.

Class: 8th
School Name: Aditya Intermediate College, Karamghatti

Nitesh and Shubham Kumar presented a creative and eco-friendly project after learning about entrepreneurship concepts. They developed models of a Solar House and a Rainwater Harvesting House, highlighting the importance of renewable energy and water conservation.

Their project reflected entrepreneurial thinking by demonstrating how sustainable technologies can be explored using simple materials and innovative ideas. Through this work, they showed how science and entrepreneurship can come together to create practical, environment-friendly solutions.

The models also encouraged awareness about the effective use of solar energy and rainwater harvesting in homes and schools, helping reduce costs while conserving natural resources. Their work clearly represented the spirit of entrepreneurship, driven by creativity, responsibility, and a vision for a sustainable future.

Project Title: Soil and Cement Art Painting

Name: Nandani

Class: 8th
School Name: Birla Vidya Mandir, Myorpur

Nandani, a student of Class 6, presented a creative idea after learning about entrepreneurship concepts. She created a beautiful painting on a smooth surface prepared using soil and cement, showcasing a unique fusion of natural and industrial materials that resulted in an interesting texture and finish.

Through this project, Nandani demonstrated how art can be explored as a form of entrepreneurship. By using simple, low-cost materials, she showed that creative artworks can be developed and sold to generate income.

Her work reflected a strong entrepreneurial mindset, highlighting how creativity and innovation in art can open pathways for self-employment and sustainable livelihoods.

Project Title: Ideal Village Model

Name: Vivek, Dheeraj, and Divya Kumar Sharma
Class: 8th
School Name: Purva Madhyamik Vidyalaya, Jharokla

Vivek, Dheeraj, and Divya Kumar Sharma worked together as a group to create a map of an Ideal Village on chart paper. Their model was inspired by their own village and focused on how rural areas can be developed through thoughtful planning, creativity, and community participation.

The project reflected entrepreneurial thinking by highlighting how young minds can contribute to rural development through innovative ideas such as clean surroundings, waste management, small-scale industries, and self-employment opportunities.

Their model encouraged others to think about building self-reliant villages using local resources, teamwork, and creative problem-solving. It effectively connected the idea of entrepreneurship with rural innovation and sustainable development.

Project Title: Creative Paper Art for Home Decoration

Name: Jitendra Kumar
Class: 9th
School Name: Rajkiya Balika High School, Jharokla

Jitendra Kumar presented a beautiful decorative design made by cutting and shaping paper and chart paper. His artwork was simple yet attractive and can be used for home decoration and festive purposes.

From an entrepreneurial point of view, this project showed how waste or low-cost materials can be turned into value-added products. With creativity and patience, Jitendra demonstrated that handmade decorative items can be sold in the market, helping students develop self-employment skills and an entrepreneurial mindset.

His project encouraged others to think creatively and make eco-friendly decorative products using locally available materials. This initiative truly reflected the idea of “Art with Purpose”, where creativity meets entrepreneurship.

Vivek Kumar created a model of a rain harvesting house using cardboard. The model demonstrates a simple and practical idea for water conservation, reflecting creativity and entrepreneurial thinking.

Student Name: Pratiksha Kumari
Class: 10th
School Name: Rajkiya Balika Highschool jharokla.

Pratiksha Kumari used paper to create beautiful designs. She cut and decorated the paper to generate creative ideas. She made flowers and other decorative items. This activity shows her creativity and entrepreneurial skills.

Student Name: Arti Kumari
Class: 9th
School: Rajkiya Balika Vidyalya, Jharokla. 

Arti Kumari created a beautiful and attractive craft using a ring, a three-colored ribbon (saffron, white, and green), and paper. She wrapped the ribbon around the ring and decorated the bottom with heart-shaped paper cuttings, making the final piece visually appealing and creative.
